Jeanne-Michèle Charbonnet’s Insights

Jessye Norman left this world in September 2019 and Christa Ludwig just passed  away on April 24, 2021. Both are vocal/musical heroes of mine and I want to honor  them by sharing 2 of my favorite song cycles sung by them. I am transported by the  music, their interpretations, and the emotions of the human voice. I have sung both  myself and these are among the many recordings I have studied throughout my life. The final 4 songs are sung by the young Egyptian singer, Fatma Said, a young and  upcoming singer who studied in Berlin (one of my homes). She combines classical  voice with her Egyptian vocal traditions in her new album, El Noor. These particular  songs are sung with a jazz combo and show her beautiful voice and multicultural  training and I find them incredibly appealing.
